This year marks 3 years since our own wedding on April 29th. For some reason, this year I find myself more than before reflecting on our wedding and everything that led up to it. There were so many things that mattered to me during that time – I wanted it to be a reflection on us as a couple. I wanted it to be a big, fun party. I wanted to NOT be stressed and just enjoy the day. And it was all that and more. Absolutely NOTHING went wrong, everything was perfect and in the moment… the day didn’t fly by. Of course I have some teeny, tiny regrets and things I wish we’d done differently but for the most part I don’t. I loved it all!
So since so many of you are in the middle of planning your weddings, I thought it’d be fun to look back at my own and show you… I’ve been there! I’m a former bride-to-be and it brings me so much joy to be able to celebrate my couples wedding days with them, with my husband along side me at each and every one 🙂 So a look back at my wedding (and other events) and things you might not have know about me!
1. I had a “Sex and the City” themed bridal shower and it was awesome! Complete with delicious martinis and the most amazing cake my brother-in-law made for me (and delivered himself, just to see my face!)
2. My bridal party was just 3 girls and my bachelorette party was just us 3 and my girlfriend, Kiirstin. It was so small and intimate and I LOVED it! We spent the night in Manhattan, eating at Sushi Samba and barhopping, dancing the night away. It was so fun!
3. My father passed away in 2004 (we were married in 2011) and I knew I wanted to have him there in as many ways as possible. A few weeks before, I ordered this charm off Etsy with a photo of him on his wedding day to my mom to carry on my bouquet with me all through the day and as I walked down the aisle. It’s a keepsake I still have and cherish dearly.
4. I wore flats on my wedding day. YUP! Jose is not much taller than me and besides the fact that I didn’t want to tower over him in our wedding photos, I also didn’t want to be uncomfortable in anyway. It was the best decision. Of course I made sure they were fabulous by wearing some ban.do heart clips on my shoes 🙂
5. We were married the same day as Prince William and Princess Kate! It’s a fun little “did you know” … and our DJs totally surprised us with this cute graphic on the tv’s at our reception!
6. My mom and mother in law looked BEAUTIFUL on our wedding day! They always look beautiful but I was so proud of how radiant they were on our wedding day. Just so gorgeous and I love this picture they took the day of! Of course I let my mom wear her favorite color, Purple!
7. We totally took a camera selfie in the limo!
8. Right before the ceremony, we took this picture with our bridal partying the bridal suite. Then afterwards, we yelled “GOOOOOO BAYSIDE!’ 😉
9. We had a first look! We were getting married in April at 5:30pm and I knew we would run out of daylight and wouldn’t have outdoor photos so we did a first look. I loved it! We both didn’t realize how emotional we would be during it and it was great to see Jose alone before anything happened.
10. Our DJs were the BEST! We wanted the dance floor bumping and packed a llll night long and this picture just proves how much they made it happen. Our DJ was Mikey B of Posh Entertainment – I’ve said it before on the blog and I’ll say it again, he’s the best!!
11. Our honeymoon was in Riviera Maya in Mexico and all we wanted to do was absolutely nothing! And that’s exactly what we did 🙂
12. On our honeymoon, I taught Jose how to use a DSLR! It’s pretty obvious by this photo he was totally clueless and needed a lot of practice… don’t worry brides, he is MUCH better now! 🙂
12. Two of my favorite random photos from our reception…
This photo says VOLUMES about Jose. I don’t even know what was happening here but everyone’s faces and smiles towards him and him in the middle.. that is Jose! The life of the party. I absolutely LOVE this picture!
LOVE this photo! It’s dark and all red and totally off but it captures us so wonderfully. Who knows what we were laughing about but that’s us in a nutshell. And we stayed by each others side all night 🙂
Oh this was so fun looking back on little bits and pieces of our wedding day! Can’t wait to celebrate our third anniversary this year and share so many more wonderful years with Jose 🙂
