“We’ll have Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island too. It’s lovely going through the zoo!” – Ella Fitzgerald
There is no place like New York City and we truly love it. No, we LOVE it. We want so badly to move there but with it being so expensive [what’s the deal!?] for now, it’s just high hopes. Luckily we live only 10 minutes away from Manhattan and any chance we get we love to get into the city. There are so many places we want to see, restaurants we want to try, things we want to do… it’s never ending. And that’s really what we love about it. We decided from time to time to share with our lovely readers as much as we can here without driving you crazy all the things we love about New York!
And we find it appropriate to start with Jose’s number one… the New York Mets!!
Once upon a time, a little boy named Jose was born. His father was a die hard New York Mets and watched every game, rooting for them year after year despite their few wins and many losses. Jose ate it up and grew up to be a die hard Mets fan as well. Seriously, you should see his collection of Mets hats! It’s a love/hate relationship. He loves them with all his heart… but let’s face it, it isn’t easy being a Mets fan. You could say New York’s team is the Yankees with all their world series championships won, their great lineup of players through their years and their legendary stadium. But what makes the Mets a GREAT team is the few “mets moments” they have are GREAT moments! Johan’s no hitter, Endy Chavez’s “the catch”, Poor Bill Buckner in the ’86 world series… such an amazin’ moment for us though 🙂 And um, who played the first baseball game in New York after 9/11? Not the Yankees… the Mets! [and honestly, Piazza’s home run is my absolute favorite Mets moment ever :)] I was once a Yankee fan… but it seems Jose has shown me the beauty of rooting for the underdog. And I haven’t looked back since! I LOVE the Mets and everything about them. C’mon, they have THE BEST mascot in the league!! 🙂 Don’t get us wrong, we aren’t haters against the Yankees or their fans. We plan to visit Yankee Stadium soon and see what all the fuss is about. But our home is Citi field 🙂
Every spring we make our way back to Citi Field and it’s like coming home. It really is. As we sat there this past May, Jose said exactly that. “It feels like home here.” And so that is one of our favorite New York things to do – go see a [mets] baseball game at Citi Field!
Last September for Jose’s 30th Birthday I wanted to make it as great and memorable as possible, since he refused to have a Birthday Party. I bought us tickets right behind home plate in the Box Seats & got them to say HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY JOSE on the jumbo tron. He seemed to be in heaven the whole time! The best part of the day? We got there early, walked around Citi Field and the Mets Museum while Jose talked about his favorite Mets moments and just how much he loved them. THAT is what made my day. Just hearing his love for this team pour out of him 🙂
By the way – have we ever mentioned a HUGE bucket list item for us is to shoot a Wedding and Engagement at Citi Field? Just throwing it out there to our future Mets fan brides! 🙂
