I have to be honest… I have a love/hate relationship with Father and Daughter dances. I absolutely love them. I love seeing the relationship between my brides and their fathers shine through in that dance. Sometimes it’s a playful relationship and they are smiling and laughing throughout the whole dance. Other times it is tight hugs and soft tears. It’s one of the sweetest and most sentimental parts of the wedding day – one that always seems to bring the entire room to tears, especially me. I shamefully have to hide behind my camera at every dance because of how badly I’m crying! And at the same time, I envy my brides. I lost my father 10 years ago this September to Altzheimers and wish at each and every wedding I could have that moment with my father. It’s the reason why I am so emotional and crying… because I’ll never have that moment with my father. Still, I’m so happy to see my brides in that moment. It really is one of my favorite moments of the day.

So… Father’s day is this Sunday. To all my brides, hug your dad’s a little tighter for me. Cherish that father/daughter dance when it comes and know I am right behind you, smiling for your happiness through my tears 🙂 Sharing a few of my favorite father and daughter dance shots with you today. I am very partial to these dances in black and white for some reason.

Hope you all have a great weekend and Happy Fathers Day!

What a beautiful tribute to brides and their dance with their first loves. The bond between fathers and daughters is very special and this dance is one of the parts of the wedding night when I always grab a tissue!

  2. Ellen Pometti says:

i just read your post and you had me crying. I know your Dad is with you each and every day, he loved you so much. I believe he would have burned the dance floor on your wedding day if he had been given the opportunity!
